Gustavus A. Parker: Early Texas Settler and Public Official (1787–1845)

Gustavus A. Parker, early Texas settler and public official, was born in Georgia in 1787. He moved to Texas in 1836 and settled in Fort Bend County, where he was listed as a farmer. County voters elected him to represent them in the House of the Fifth and Sixth congresses (1840–42). In 1843–44 he represented Austin, Colorado, and Fort Bend counties in the Senate. During the Ninth Congress, 1844–45, he again was a member of the House. Parker died in Washington, Texas, on January 22, 1845, just before the end of the regular session of the Ninth Congress.
